the masbeth's ancestor who was survived was only a young boy when the horseman took his parent's lives. after that, ichabod crane took him in under his wing, treating him like a brother. that boy survived to have a family, thus creating these two siblings, hundreds of years later. the boy is a whitelighter and like some twist of fate, has been tasked to look after the cranes. it's always as if fate is reversing the roles of the crane/masbeth relationship from so many years ago. the sister is completely open but no matter what, the brother always does his best to look after her. i imagine he's rather naive, whereas she's the bold and daring one.

the cranes are direct descendants of ichabod crane himself, though they were widely unaware of the tale of the horseman or they ancestor until recently. they previously lived in another state, having come to sleepy hollow in search of answers. jackson was told by a seer that he is the chosen one - the one who will defeat the horseman and prevent the apocalypse. the problem? matthew hears voices and sees visions of the horseman, who seems to be calling him his way...to the evil side. and as for alexandra, she was turned into a vampire upon first setting foot in sleepy hollow. more info found in jackson's app/want ad.

the van garretts were one of the families that remained in sleepy hollow after the first horseman attacks. from their great grandfathers, they not only earned a shitload of cash, but also the gift of immorality via vampirism after one of their relatives was bitten. they own half the town and throw money around like its nothing, even trying to bribe law enforcement to get them out of bad situations. they're just a rotten bunch, with the exception of the youngest boy who is the black sheep. they not only think the vampirism makes them untouchable, but their millions of dollars too.

LANCASTER

lancaster is the only living relative of the original lancaster. he has his great, great[however many] uncle's medical journal, stating all the observations about the first horseman's victims. he noted in great detail how the wound seemed cauterized like the blade was heated from the fires of hell. in his heart, he knows its all true but he doesn't want to accept it. for that reason, he works as a mortal detective, trying to find any excuse for a person's death that doesn't involve the supernatural. but at some point, he won't be able to deny it any longer.

these two are bad news. even though the horseman is just as much after them as the others, they have this creepy obsession with him. they are into black magic and want nothing more than to be able to control him and release the other horsemen of the apocalypse. they're evil as hell and their powers are quite strong. not a force to be reckoned with. they went as far as selling their souls to some crossroads demons for extra powers.

VAN TASSEL

 This lady is the last of the van tassel family. she is a wiccan and more or less just wants to live her life as normally as possible. still, she can't deny magic is in her blood, causing her to unintentionally use her powers sometimes. her family has had this curse on them since the horseman first struck over two hundred years ago. each generation has had a person die. both of her parents died in a car accident and now that she's all that's left, she's convinced she's next. her and jackson crane have been an on again/off again thing, which seems fitting seeing as their great ancestors were once in love.
