THERE IS DARKNESS IN HER LIFE, BUT SHE IS LIGHT.
California had been one of those places, a safe haven, and a place where she had settled down. But settling down was something she had never wanted, not since she had run away from home, from her coven, and from the dying faces of her parents. Settling down meant getting attached and then having to leave behind love ones, and that was exactly what had happened. She had stayed in California for too long and it resulted in her getting tracked by her brother and having to leave behind friends and a man she had fallen for; a man she would give her life for. Only a month had passed since she fled from California, leaving behind the witches she had been staying with and Callum, sweet human Callum. Callum was the only normality in her life and for that she really grew fond of him, enough that her heart would quicken within her chest whenever he spoke to her, his touch had been her weakness, and his smile was her downfall. She had fallen for a man that couldn’t protect himself, she had lied to him about her true life, she had used him as a way to get a normal life and then she just broke his heart by fleeing.
She was only staying in town for a few days, this town was different from any other place that she had stayed at, and she didn’t want to stay here any longer. She would resupply herself and then she would be gone, leaving behind nothing but a trail through the little town of Sleepy Hollow, not enough time for her brother to once again track her down and claim her. If he caught up to her, surely she would be sent back to Russia, kicking and screaming, where she would be trapped forever. But she wouldn’t let that happen, she had tasted the sweetness of freedom and she didn’t want to give it up. Not now not ever. Slowly she walked down the streets of Sleepy Hollow, her eyes drawn to the sign hanging safety above a building that many people were entering and leaving. A local bar. She could use a drink, preferably alcoholic. Sure Callum had always told her that drinking was bad for her; she was too young to drink. And of course she knew he was right, so whenever she was with him she had always gone for water, but he wasn’t here. She could get drunk, forget everything she lost, no one was stopping her.
So her feet padded against the ground as she made her way across the street, her red nails catching the light of the sun as she pushed open the door to the grille. She slipped inside, her eyes glancing over everything before making her way over to a seat and ordered a bottle of beer. Once the order was complete she let her nails tap against the wooden surface, the sound enough to drive anyone mad, but she had grown use to it, it was a way to calm her mind down enough.
