you better pray
that there's another way out. you better pray that someone's listening now. 'cause when you lie like the devil himself, no angel's gonna hear your cry for help.
even though casey had a nasty habit of overintoxicating and indulging in drugs, he was not one known to do so in public. okay, that was true. more often than not he was under the influence in the public eye. the better way to put it was that he didn't frequent establishments like a normal person. he was typically one who was annoyed with bars and things of that nature, mostly because of the scum he found there. he himself was a bit of a ladies man when it came down to it, but he was respectful, for the most part. watching the sleazebags prey on drunk women was something that set him off and subsequently, ended with a bar fight. he was all for a fight, to numb the pain, but a different context was what he preferred.
his habits of addiction were deplorable, by anyone's standards. he didn't particularly care, though. that was the point; he did the drugs so he didn't have to care. he drank the booze to numb the pain. not only had he managed to fuck up his love life and his chances at being a decent father, but the vampirism that afflicted him weighed heavily on his heart that he could barely deal with it. that, in combination with the fact he'd ever see his daughter again was enough to drive a man mad. part of him hoped he'd starve or drink himself to death but thus far, he hadn't managed that. didn't mean he wouldn't keep trying.
despite his better judgement, casey wandered to one of the very places he tried to avoid. he was already a little buzzed, though it was hard to tell if it was the alcohol he'd previously consumed or his lack of feeding. it'd been nearly a week since he'd last eaten and even then, it was from a blood bag. he could barely recall the last time he'd fed from a live person - years, probably.
seating himself at the bar, he ordered himself a tall jack minus the coke. it hadn't taken long for him to down the first, demanding a second of the bar tender. his gaze flashed a darker color, suggesting his vampire side was beginning to taunt him, appearance wise, now. as the hunger snapped at his veins, he merely drank more to try to suppress it; unsuccessfully.
the bartender must have been some sort of supernatural himself, recognizing that the youngest van garrett was apparently unhinged. "looks like you need to feed. here, this one's on the house." from a dark black bottle, he poured a helpful amount in casey's existing drink, sliding it over to him. he could smell the blood the moment the bottle was uncorked. it was all he could do to keep his fangs from protruding from his upper palette, fighting against the urge to drink the liquid. "i don't know where that came from." he retorted, unwilling to accept the blood. doing so would mean accepting he was a monster. besides his siblings, he didn't care for anyone to know that. "i'll stick with my boy jack, man." with that, he motioned to his glass, requesting one that wasn't tainted with the blood he so badly wanted.
once he had another, casey merely sat there, head facing down at the bar top. he neither cared for nor needed to look around at the bar; there was nothing interesting there. besides, his impeccable hearing would alert him of any changes.
